MandaTone Privacy Policy

MandaTone ("we", "our", or "the app") is a Mandarin pronunciation learning application. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

1. Data We Collect

1.1 Account Data

• Anonymous accounts: When you first open MandaTone, we create an anonymous account so you can start learning immediately. No personal information is required.
• OAuth sign-in (optional): If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your email address and display name from the provider. We do not receive or store your password.
• Google Sign-In also processes information for authentication, fraud prevention, and service analytics under Google's privacy policy. Its SDK declares account information (including name, email address, and phone number), user/device identifiers, approximate location, usage data, and other account/service data. MandaTone does not ask you to enter a phone number and does not receive one through its current Google sign-in flow.

1.2 Audio Recordings

• When you use speaking exercises, MandaTone records your voice through your device microphone.
• Audio recordings are sent through our server to Microsoft Azure for pronunciation assessment. MandaTone does not keep them as learning history or upload them to persistent recording storage. Temporary on-device recordings are removed as part of exercise cleanup; an interrupted or unsuccessful cleanup may leave a temporary file for the operating system to reclaim.
• We do not use your voice recordings for any purpose other than providing real-time pronunciation feedback.
• Microsoft describes pronunciation assessment as a service that does not retain customer input data. See Microsoft's Speech data privacy documentation.

1.3 Learning Progress

• Practice scores, course progress, test results, and diagnostic reports are stored on our servers to provide a continuous learning experience across sessions.
• This data is associated with your anonymous or authenticated account ID.

1.4 Optional AI Coach Processing

• Coach can send practice results and diagnostic summaries, a learning profile (such as your selected language and learning preferences), and messages you send to Alibaba Cloud Bailian to tailor guidance and learning plans.
• We ask for a separate, explicit choice before enabling this processing. It is separate from the Coach Memory setting. You can decline and continue ordinary practice with saved results and guidance based on those results.
• Recorded pronunciation audio is not included in these Coach AI requests. Speech assessment uses the separate Microsoft Azure path described above.
